GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP

The grief group, held at Southminster, is a monthly opportunity to find support and understanding for those who have experienced the loss of a loved one. Grief is a personal and unique journey where it is helpful to be around others who can understand. We gather in a safe, trusting place to learn while finding support and encouragement.

Our purpose: “To provide fellowship, support and learning for the grief journey.”

Fellowship – We have lunch together to helping build trust and understanding. Bring your lunch and we provide beverages.

Support – We help each by “companioning” – sharing, listening and learning together.  While each grief journey is unique and different – there are many feelings we have in common. We confidentially share in a safe place, free of fear or judgment.

Learning – We use the educational resources of Dr. Alan Wolfelt, who is the leading grief counselor, educator and author in the US. His approach is to help people understand what is involved in the grief journey using the Touchstones to Find Hope and Healing. These touchstones focus on physical, emotional, intellectual, social, and spiritual actions to help with healing.

After prayerful consideration, Jane accepted the support group’s facilitator role in 2008.  The sudden death of Jane’s husband began her very personal grief journey. She felt called to help others understand what is involved in grief and provide a safe, supportive environment. Learning is central to Jane’sapproach for each meeting.
