Emily Weitz is a Licensed Social Worker with over five years’ experience working with children and families impacted by trauma and mental health challenges. Through the On Our Sleeves campaign at Dayton Children’s Hospital, Emily is working to provide free mental health educational resources to families in the Dayton region. Emily’s goal is to give caregivers the tools to feel empowered to help their children overcome basic life struggles.  

July 12 – “Growing Conversations with Your Child”

Emily will talk about how to have meaningful conversations with kids, basic mental health stats, how having conversations can help improve mental wellness, a slide on how to access mental health services if needed, and resources available through On Our Sleeves with Dayton Childrens Hospital.  Presented by Emily Weitz, BSW, LSW – Community Behavioral Health Outreach with Dayton Childrens Hospital.

July 19 – “Think for Yourself”

Focus on the understanding of messages being sent and how kids come to recognize what type of message they are receiving – “read” and evaluate/analyze the presentation.  What’s the difference between facts vs fiction in todays media?  Is there an underlying message involved? How do these topics play into kids decision making? Presented by Wendy Karth.

July 26 – “Kids and Technology: What Parents Should Know”

Learn about the good and bad of social media apps like Instagram, TikTok and Snapchat, the consequences of sharing photos, videos, and information through technology, and how predators target children along with the repercussions of sexting.  Learn how the parents/caregivers should be involved and know what their children are posting online. 

 

This year in addition to our regular VBS for the kids, we are so excited to announce our Speaker Series for the adults. We have three guest speakers scheduled for 3 of our 4 VBS weeks that run at the same time as VBS events.

Everyone is welcome to this event. Since this coincides with our child VBS, we are offering a family dinner at 6 pm. Then at 7 pm the children to head to their VBS activities while the parents can attend the Adult Speaker Series. We would love to have you and your kids attend this event. If you’d like to attend the dinner and bring your kids to dinner, please RSVP at the link below. We will also have childcare available for any children under 4.
