Ash Wednesday Agape Meal with Worship

Ashes, Renewal of Baptismal Vows, Communion – Wednesday February 18th @ 6:30 PM in the CFC (Christian Fellowship Center)

Ash Wednesday is a time to consider who we are and who God calls us to be.  Both a soup supper and a worship service will take place around tables in the shape of a cross. The service will include the renewal of baptismal vows, sharing of Communion, and ashes for those who would like them.

Lenten Devotional

On February 25, you can pick up this year’s personal Lenten devotional booklet, called Coming Back to Life. In spring, after a long winter’s nap, an amazing thing happens: the world comes back to life! This booklet is full of ideas and activities that can help us wake up, too, preparing our hearts, minds, and communities for Easter’s great celebration.

Ways to participate in discussion of the Devotional:

  • Join the conversation in the coffee corner following worship.
  • Join in the online discussion by following Southminster on Facebook and Instagram.

WEDNESDAY EVENING

SPIRITUAL PRACTICES WITH DARIA

February 25—March 25, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. in the Adult Lounge.

Childcare is available in the nursery.

Struggling to stay afloat, much less swim? Seeking to deepen your connection with God? Adding a regular spiritual practice to your life can help you grab onto the lifebuoy God keeps at the ready for us. We will begin with an overview, then dive into learning about specific practices and, well, practice together. Childcare is available in the nursery.

    ADULT EDUCATION CLASS

    Sundays, February 22 – March 29

    11:15 a.m.in the Hospitality Room

Childcare is available in the nursery.

Deepen your Lenten experience by joining this 6- week class taught by Steve Davis. We will be using the book An Unlikely Lent: Extraordinary People of The Easter Story by Rachel Billups. The crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus are at the heart of the story of Easter, but the resurrection was not witnessed in isolation. It unfolded before a crowd.

What might the stories of those women and men teach us today? How will they help us step into the story of Easter? Here, we can see what has been overlooked, not just in the grand moments but in the in-between: the silence, the side characters, and the questions.

Palm Sunday (also known as Passion Sunday):  This is a day of change from the joyful celebration of Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem to the solemn knowledge of what lies ahead for him in the coming week. The service will include palms, beautiful music, and the opportunity to begin Holy Week with a meaningful worship experience. This year, the children will be singing a song.

(Worship Service on Sunday, March 29 at 10 a.m.). Childcare is available in the nursery.

      Stations of the Cross

      Wed, April 1, 5-8 p.m.

Thurs, April 2, 4:30-6:30 p.m., followed by our Maundy Thursday Service at 7.

      Fri., April 3, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. and 5-8 p.m.

      Sat. April 4, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Follow Jesus on his journey to the Cross, using prayer stations with meaningful reflections and hands-on activities. Come and experience a powerful meditative journey. This experience is for all ages.

Maundy Thursday – April 2 @ 7:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary (childcare is available in the nursery)

Maundy Thursday focuses on the Lord’s Supper and the new commandment to love one another.  This year, we will have an interactive musical service with choir anthems from various composers, along with instrumentalists and narrators. In this Tenebrae service, we progressively extinguish candles, helping us understand that the joy of the Resurrection is made more powerful and meaningful by observing the experiences of Jesus that lead up to it.

Good Friday is the day we remember Christ’s suffering and death on the cross. This would be a good time for you to read through the Passion story in one of the Gospels: Matthew 26:30–27:66, Mark 14:26–15:47, Luke 22:39–23:56, or John 18:1–19:42. It would also be a good day to come to our traditional “Stations of the Cross” experience. (Friday, April 3)

Easter celebrates the Resurrection of Jesus Christ and the joyous gift of new life offered to all of God’s people. We will have joyful singing and instrumental accompaniment with a brass quintet and timpani. If you would like, you are invited to bring flowers to add to our large Easter Flower Cross.

(Easter Sunday Worship Service, April 5 at 10:00 a.m.)
